legacy
The Manhood Training Rites of Passage Program was established at the Union Temple Baptist Church in 1980. It was the first rites of passage program of any African American Church in America. Since its inception, it has been replicated, duplicated, and imitated by other church/religious, social, and fraternal associations.
We prescribe to the philosophy that there are three aspects of the development of man.
These three aspects are:
Physical development, Mental Development, & Spiritual Development
THE FIVE FOLD PURPOSE OF CROSSOVER
1
spiritual development
A deep reverence for God
as the source of everything.
2
teamwork
“The Strength of the wolf is in the pack.”
It’s our goal to teach candidates that anything can be accomplished TOGETHER.
They must understand that success and progress for those of African descent is and must always be a “team process” and not an individual process.
3
faith
In God, in self and in each other. The Bible teaches us that God has not given us the Spirit of Fear, but of Faith, Love and a Sound Mind. These young men must understand that COURAGE and FAITH come through belief in the power of God.
4
love
For God, for self and each other. If we truly love each other, all of our collective needs will always be met.
5
respect for authority
With respect for authority, these young men must know that they will live very successful lives. Respect for authority starts with respect for God.
